Hiatus

Project PK Flash! is going on hiatus while I finish my last year of school. This is more of a personal note to myself so I don't forget, but I have a good feeling I'll return to finish it. Ha ha ha... I hope I didn't jinx myself there.

In the meantime, you can check out my newest endeavor, Planet REDWOOD. It's a fansite dedicated to my other favorite cult classic video game, Deadly Premonition. It's a very different game from Earthbound, but no less deserving of the close following it has begun to garner.

Welcome to Threed! Desktop wallpaper

I got a request from someone to turn this screenshot into a wallpaper, so here's a quickie version I threw together from the Flash file.

You can also download the image from DA here.

A Taste of Things to Come...

Here's the first couple minutes of what I've done so far, complete with music. Scene transitions have yet to be implemented and the animation is still in the rough stages, but the backgrounds are pretty much finished. I'm guessing this is a little under half of the whole thing, so progress is being made, slowly. The rest of it is still just a bunch of scribbles, which I will be posting later.

I finally figured out the export settings for Premiere, so crank that sucker up to 1080p and fullscreen it, baby!

Meteor Screenshot

Just posting a little something to assure myself, and whoever is reading this, that I have a lot more done than what's displayed here.

Colour Reference

Colour codes for the four protagonists. This is basically what the final colouring style will look like, but with cleaner lines; these are just rough blobs of tone I threw together for reference. Also I decided to go with the completely filled in dot eyes, rather than the more cartoony eyes shown above in which you can see the whites. It was easier, and seemed to fit better, although it does give the designs more of a unique feel. The overall look I'm going for has a bit of a pastel, children's book quality to it, lots of flat layers to give the impression of depth. I'll put up some examples later.

Ness rough walk cycle

Rough animation for Ness's walk cycle, as seen in the title image of this blog. I'm still getting used to the presets on my copy of Premiere CS4, so the encoding is pretty janky, but I'll figure it out eventually.

I'll update this blog periodically with any new animations I put up, but if you want to check out the Youtube channel anyway, head over to ProjectPKFlash and subscribe. Or whatever it is you're supposed to do there.

The year is 20XX...

Welcome to the world of PK Flash! An Animated Earthbound Tribute. A couple months ago, I decided to try out my new-found Flash skills by making a music video for Catherine Warwick's rendition of Pollyanna. I have decided to create a production blog, documenting my progress. The entire 3:43 minutes of the song have been fully storyboarded and timed out, so all that needs to be done is the background colouring and actual animation (a walk in the park, right?).

The following images are screenshots from the opening scene, depicting the meteor crash. As you can see in the third image and the title of this blog, I'm roughing out the animation over the clean BGs and will colour them in later. I plan to post some rough-to-clean boards to show my process. If I can swing it, I'll put up some Youtube links showing the actual rough animation before I cover it all with paint. PK Flash spans the entire game story, with some necessary edits for length; as of this writing, I'm halfway through Ness and Paula's misadventures in Threed. Expect some zombie-related updates at some point.

In short, I hope you all enjoy watching me struggle to use basic tweening techniques.

Here comes the Buzz, doo-doo-doo-doo...

There's maybe like three types of stars in this scene, copied over and over.

The animation for this is actually kind of cool, but unfortunately this is a still image.

Any comments and stuff are welcome. This is a side project for now, but who knows what will happen. Hope you all enjoy! (Also, I just set up a Youtube account, so check that out as well.)
